PTA SIM Misuse Warning Issued to Pakistani Telecom Users Nationwide

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to all telecom users about SIM misuse. Every SIM must be registered in the actual user’s name.

Using a SIM registered under someone else’s name violates PTA regulations. The registered user is fully responsible for all calls, messages, and data usage on that SIM.

Registered Users Held Accountable

According to PTA, registered users will be solely responsible for all calls, messages, and data usage made through their SIM cards or devices. Any misuse of a SIM, whether intentional or unintentional, will be considered the responsibility of the registered owner.

The PTA emphasized that compliance with all relevant telecom rules and regulations is mandatory. Failure to adhere to these rules may result in enforcement actions, including penalties or legal prosecution.

Dangerous Biometric Scams

The authority has also issued an alert about a growing scam that threatens citizens’ biometric data. Fraudsters are targeting vulnerable groups, especially women and senior citizens, by offering free SIM cards or fake financial aid schemes.

Victims are often asked to provide fingerprints, thumb impressions, or other sensitive information. These SIMs obtained through fraudulent means are frequently used in criminal activities such as identity theft, financial fraud, and large-scale scams.

Criminal Consequences

The PTA warned that giving a SIM card registered in your name to another individual is a criminal offense under Pakistani law. Authorities stress that sharing personal or biometric data with unverified sources can lead to severe legal consequences.
