Indonesia’s Gede Priandana
Indonesia fast bowler Gede Priandana made T20 international history on Tuesday by becoming the first player to take five wickets in a single over in a men’s or women’s T20I match. The record-breaking spell came during the opening T20I against Cambodia at the Udayana Cricket Ground in Bali.
Priandana achieved the feat while defending a target of 168, producing a decisive over that triggered Cambodia’s collapse and secured Indonesia a 60-run victory in the first match of the eight-game series.
Cambodia were still in contention at the end of the 15th over, reaching 106 for five in their chase. Priandana, bowling his first over of the match, was introduced in the 16th over and immediately turned the game.

The right-arm pacer struck with the first three deliveries to complete a hat-trick, dismissing Shah Abrar Hussain, Nirmaljit Singh, and Chanthoeun Rathanak. After a dot ball, he removed Mongdara Sok and Pel Vennak on successive deliveries to claim five wickets in the same over. The only run conceded was a single wide.
Cambodia’s innings unraveled rapidly following the historic over, and they were bowled out well short of the target. Priandana became the first bowler in T20 international cricket, across both men’s and women’s formats, to take five wickets in a single over with officially recorded fall-of-wicket data.
The achievement places Priandana in a unique position in the record books. While five wickets in an over has occurred twice in domestic men’s T20 cricket, it had never been recorded in international competition before this match.
Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain took five wickets in an over during the 2013–14 Victory Day T20 Cup, while Karnataka bowler Abhimanyu Mithun achieved the feat in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy semi-final. Priandana’s performance stands alone at international level.
Gede Priandana Creates T20I History
Earlier in the match, Indonesia posted 167 after being sent in to bat. The innings was anchored by wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma, who scored an unbeaten 110 off 68 balls. His knock included eight fours and six sixes and provided the platform for Indonesia’s competitive total.
Priandana opened the innings alongside Kesuma and contributed six runs off 11 deliveries. While his batting contribution was limited, his impact with the ball proved decisive.
Indonesia’s bowling effort was supported by Danilson Hawoe and Anjar Tadarus, who picked up two wickets each. The pair maintained pressure in the middle overs before Priandana’s spell ended Cambodia’s resistance.
For Cambodia, Shah Abrar Hussain and Etienne Beukes claimed two wickets each, but their efforts were overshadowed by Indonesia’s batting display and the historic bowling performance that followed.
Prior to Priandana’s achievement, there had been 14 instances of bowlers taking four wickets in a single over in T20 internationals. The most notable among them was Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, who took four wickets in four balls against New Zealand in 2019.
Indonesia’s win gives them a 1–0 lead in the eight-match T20I series. The second match is scheduled to be played at the same venue on December 23.
Priandana’s five-wicket over marks a significant milestone for Indonesia cricket and adds a rare record to the history of the T20 international format.
