Newcastle vs Chelsea Ends in 2-2 Draw

Woltemade opened the scoring within four minutes, following a rebound from Anthony Gordon’s shot saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Chelsea’s response came quickly after halftime. Four minutes into the second half, captain Reece James curled a free kick past Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to make it 2-1. The equalizer followed in the 66th minute when Sanchez launched a long ball to Joao Pedro, whose marker Malick Thiaw slipped, allowing him to place a precise shot past Ramsdale. Chelsea’s comeback highlighted Newcastle’s ongoing defensive issues, as the home side extended their Premier League clean sheet drought to 10 matches.
Newcastle appealed for a penalty when Trevoh Chalobah challenged Gordon in the box, but the referee and VAR dismissed the claims. Despite late pressure, including a near-miss volley from substitute Harvey Barnes, Newcastle were unable to reclaim the lead. Chelsea’s defensive discipline, led by James, helped secure the draw and maintain their position in the top four.
