IoBM Marks 30 Years of Excellence at Its 28th Convocation, Confers Degrees on 1,515 Graduates

The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) celebrated a historic milestone as it held its 28th Convocation on Saturday, awarding degrees to 1,515 graduates across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. This year’s ceremony carried special significance as it coincided with IoBM’s 30th anniversary, marking three decades since the College of Business Management (CBM) began its journey in 1995.

The graduating class included 19 gold medalists and 64 Merit Certificate recipients, representing IoBM’s tradition of academic excellence and leadership development.

Guest of Honor Highlights Graduate Potential

The Guest of Honor, Dr. Sulaiman Shahabuddin, President of The Aga Khan University, praised the graduates as a generation with immense potential and the capacity to shape Pakistan’s future. He advised them to remain optimistic, adopt lifelong learning habits, and focus on personal well-being and intellectual growth.

Chancellor Pays Tribute to Parents

In his Welcome Address, IoBM Chancellor Mr. M. Bashir Janmohammad emphasized that the true chief guests of the occasion were the parents who made countless sacrifices. He urged graduates to uphold honesty, contribute positively to Pakistan, and cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset.

A Defining Year for IoBM

Presenting the annual progress report, IoBM President Mr. Talib Syed Karim called the past year “one of the most defining” in the institute’s history. He highlighted major achievements, including:

  • Submission of IoBM’s AACSB accreditation application
  • Becoming Pakistan’s first university to be recognized as a member institution of the Business Graduate Association and the Association of MBAs (AMBA)
  • Student excellence in community initiatives and national/international sports competitions, including karate, badminton, bodybuilding, hockey, mountaineering, and football

He noted that the graduating class represented IoBM with pride both inside and outside the classroom.

Keynote Speaker Encourages Continuous Improvement

Keynote Speaker Mirza Salman Beg, CEO of Enterprising Manufacturing Co. Pvt. Ltd. and IoBM alumnus (MBA 1998), encouraged graduates to focus on direction, clarity, and personal growth. He stressed that perfection should not be the goal; rather, mastering the art of continuous improvement would lead to long-term success.

Valedictorian Message

Valedictorian Ammar Shahkar Sayied (BBA Honors), recipient of the Shahjehan Syed Karim Gold Medal, credited IoBM’s faculty, peers, and learning environment for his success. He motivated fellow graduates to pursue their aspirations with confidence and determination.

Honoring the Founder President

During the ceremony, a tribute was paid to IoBM’s late Founder President, Mr. Shahjehan Syed Karim. Quoting from his 2013 Convocation Address, Ms. Juveria Baig reminded graduates to always honor their parents’ sacrifices, love, and prayers.

Academic Diversity and Institutional Growth

Over three decades, IoBM has evolved into a dynamic academic institution comprising four colleges:

  • College of Business Management (CBM)
  • College of Computer Science and Information Systems (CCSIS)
  • College of Engineering and Sciences (CES)
  • College of Economics and Social Development (CESD)

These colleges offer programs ranging from business, finance, and accounting to computer science, psychology, economics, engineering, and media studies.

The 28th Convocation celebrated not just academic achievement, but also IoBM’s ongoing mission: shaping responsible, empowered, and forward-thinking professionals for Pakistan and beyond.

With strong values, modern skills, and industry-aligned education, the graduating class of 2025 leaves IoBM ready to contribute meaningfully to national development and global progress.
